As big of a trainwreck as its protagonist. I had the same response to the film as I did with the novel: had potential on paper but everything was just awful, from the turgid screenplay to the horrendous direction. I don't know if the publishers/distributors purposefully marketed the story as the next Gone Girl or whether people just compared them because both had 'unlikeable' female protagonists that were also unreliable narrators, but it really does the former no favours. Emily Blunt deserved better.
