Tatsuya Nakadai’s review published on Letterboxd:
I liked this film, but I confess I was disappointed. Having previously seen and adored Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress, I was certain I would love this, too. Alas, I never found myself as engaged as I would have hoped. I don't mind the film's dream logic resulting in some clunky plotting, but the characters simply weren't interesting enough to overcome that. That said, the animation is fluid and absolutely stunning. (The character design was nothing special, but that's not too important.) I was fortunate enough to see a 35mm print still pristine ten years after the film's release. I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone interested in science fiction, anime, Japanese cinema and any combination thereof.
