This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
One of the most gorgeous films. So many shots looked like a painting. I far prefer this to the 2008 BBC Tess. Nastassja Kinski was absolutely perfect as the lead. This is a Criterion film I plan to buy.
I loved the moment after Tess tells Angel her secret but instead of comforting her, he gets up to stoke the fire. In one action he becomes just as cruel as Alec d'Urberville--who's real name is Alec Stoke.
According to the commentary, the film was going to be two hours... I've rarely been so pleased with an accidental three-hour movie.
