The French Dispatch

The French Dispatch ★★★★

Usually when live-action movies have an animated sequence they have the freedom to do all sorts of crazy visual stuff they’re not able to do otherwise, so it’s a testament to the visual prowess of this film that when it does its own animated sequence, it actually feels lackluster compared to the caliber it’s operating on with the camera. Which is further ironic for many reasons I won’t get into right now, but I think it would work better if it weren’t the last big set piece of the movie. Anyway, I obviously loved this, I wish every movie people deemed soulless were as heartfelt and meticulous as this. More thoughts to come, perhaps on a certain online video platform 👀 don’t hold me to it though.
