Tom’s review published on Letterboxd:
I didn't dislike it the way I thought I was going to. Spielberg still has a good grip on blockbuster filmmaking. The set pieces were fun and engaging (one in particular was surprising and impressive. You know the one...) but man a large majority of the dialogue was at least vaguely cringe-inducing for me. I understand that the pop-culture references were actually integral to the plot for better or worse but I just felt there was an extremely thin veil of plot relevance hanging over some of these strings of movie and video game titles.
All that said, it was a good time at the movies and I'd probably watch it again sometime.
Also, the soundtrack for the most part was pure Suicide Squad. Just random late 70s/early 80s pop songs thrown into scene changes with no real plot or character related context to tie them together. Good songs though!
