Tears_in_Rain’s review published on Letterboxd:
Watched my number one favorite movie of all time (for the 6,978th time) with my number one favorite person of all time.
I may be a tad biased here, as the core of my aesthetic sensibilities derive from this film to begin with, but there never has and never will be a better looking (or sounding) film, as far as I'm concerned. After all these years, I still get goosebumps watching this thing. The production design is fucking unassailable. The soundtrack is sublime. Rutger Hauer's performance is one of the all-time greats.
This really is, for me, just one of those films that gets better every single time I watch it. It never fails to ignite in me a childlike sense of wonder and a profound sense of awe. It's like a religious experience. Yeah, as far as I'm concerned, this is the fucking zenith of human achievement. As good as it gets. It's all down hill from here, folks. God I fucking love this movie.
Favorite moments:
- When Pris' facial expression shifts on a dime from innocent to menacing, while that pitched-down cat meow sound effect underscores the moment.
- When Deckard tells Rachael about her implanted memories while Memories of Green starts playing.
- Every single moment Rutger is on screen.
- Every single shot that showcases the jaw-dropping production design while accompanied by the greatest film score of all time.
- The tears in rain monologue, obviously.
