What’s scarier than vampires?
Growing up by yourself.
Let the Right One In shows us just how terrifying and lonely it is to be a kid. When you don’t know who you are, or you don’t like who you’re becoming, having one friend — any friend — seems worth giving your life for. Or maybe killing for.
That’s how Oskar, a lonely kid who fantasizes about murdering his bullies, ends up falling in love with a vampire in the body of a twelve-year-old girl. He needs a friend. It’s really a charming love story. Yeah, there’s plenty of bloody murder, but there’s a fluffy innocence that floats to the surface like marshmallows in a cup of burning hot chocolate. Maybe it’s easier to let the whole world fall away once you’ve found a true friend who needs you. Because you need them too. And nothing else matters.
