Decided to give my first Mikhail Kalatozov film a watch and I definitely picked his most ambitious and notable film of his career for my first experience of his works. It is truly a powerful film that really captures a love story during a violent destructive war. The closest thing I could compare this to would be The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

The stunt and set work here is really impressive given the resources accessible in 1950s Soviet Union. There’s something…

Decided to make a double feature of David Lean films, this marks my sixth film I’ve seen from Lean’s filmography. It’s a true classic based on Charles Dickens’ great masterpiece novel. It is amazing that this is the only moving picture of the fires blazing from the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. It is still incredible that we even have this documented on film, thanks to the filmmakers who wanted to keep a record of this for years to come and it is now 114 years later and we are still watching this. History lives on and so does the footage.

This Tarantino flick is amongst the best of the year, and one of his best to this day, besides Inglourious Basterds. Tarantino creates a love letter to old Hollywood as it is about to embark from the Golden Age in a classic “what if” approach like what Inglourious did. A great film to watch, especially if you are a Tarantino fan or if you’re looking for a good watch in general, this would be Best.
