Bi Gan, you brilliant looney! I don't know if this fairytale is a bit too cutesy-wootsey like some Chinese and Japanese film tend towards, but the camerawork and practical effects trickery are out of this world. And very much his own--here's a guy speaking backwards that *isn't* trying to copy Lynch. I was reminded of manga-ka Imiri Sakabashira and his wandering cat adventures.
