Fruitvale Station 2013
Not entirely without merit, but unnecessarily contrived and heartstring-tugging. The event itself was sufficiently dramatic; it didn't need to be made moreso. That said, it's a promising first feature from Coogler.

The Paperboy 2012
Don't get me wrong: this film is absolutely awful. Pretty much every choice Daniels makes is wrong -- the story is a mess. Completely incoherent. Clearly Daniels has no idea how to tell the story, so he just tried EVERYTHING.
All that said, I enjoyed the hell out of it. It was a fabulous disaster. Nicole Kidman acted her guts out, and her performance shone against the backdrop of phoned-in acting from the rest of the cast. Cusack was especially bad/hilarious.
I can't in good conscience recommend this film, but if you enjoy a good train wreck, you'll probably enjoy it.
