A good movie that I think has aged well thanks to Anderson style but I can definitely see why people didn't like this movie when it came out.
Like it kind of shows how Anderson's aesthetic choices if not made well can equate to "Ah SO QUIRKy". Like the choice to make Owen Wilson's character from Kentucky despite Owen Wilson having a real hard time trying to suppress his Texas accent. It doesn't add anything despite an increase in the quirky factor but at the cost of Owens performance being a bit rigged trying to do an accent he can't quite stick to.
But if you look past some of the questionable aesthetic choices you have a film that pays tribute to an era of adventure and childhood dreaming that no longer exists. Which I honestly think is Anderson's strength and why he does so well with animated films.
