Yi Yi is the best film about family. Even better than Boyhood and others. Yes, it's 3 hours long and it was enough to show the details and personal matter every family member is dealing with. They all are at different stages of their lives: childhood, puberty, midlife crisis, old age, etc.. This film really portrayed all of these stages in one family perfectly.
Yang-Yang, the ultra-innocent little boy, did a phenomenal job being a cute boy. Powerful display of innocence, curiosity, and adventure we all have when we were youngsters. One of the best child performances ever, up there with Jack from Room.
I love the tone and cinematography in Yi Yi. Perfect setting. All the actors and actresses did a great job too. Powerful story. Wonderful ending. It can be very slow at the beginning but it was meant to be that way. Gets better over time. The most important thing is that all the characters felt REAL. You can easily relate to any of them. Incredible. Overall, one of the best films ever made.
