Bryant’s review published on Letterboxd:
Freaks sheds some interesting light on Dracula insofar as it clarifies Browning’s sympathies. I wonder what he would have done with the Nosferatu version of the story, in which the count is more expressly alien? The vast sympathy he shows towards his cast here makes me think that would have been a better fit for him.
Anyhow, this is great. Although it rambles even at the abbreviated 64 minutes, it’s well worth letting go of the thin plot to give us more time with the circus. It’s a hangout movie with a bitter discussion about power abuse threaded through it.
