    This is so very 90s, and is maybe peak Stephen Dorff. Featuring Kris Kristofferson in a role that seems almost tailor-made to be a quirky but pivotal Tom Waits appearance - I almost wonder if Waits turned them down or was unavailable.

    Also peak pre-Matrix lousy CGI incorporated into a film just because they could, without stopping to think whether it actually looked any good or if it is so distracting that it would just take the audience out of the moment.

    It's like Alex Garland decided to remake Solaris but used a script for an adaptation of Heart of Darkness instead. Of course it's not for everyone. It worked for me, though, and the cinematography, score, and use of sound and silence are all completely immersive, not to mention the emotional heart at the center of the story.
