more a coming-of-age drama about sibling rivalry and the difficulty of accommodating to a new life than a sickening horror film about cannibalism, even if this movie does become the latter towards the end. definitely contains that indie directorial debut feel, but Raw contains a surprising amount of quiet cinematic grace, and a surprising amount of blood. the gross parts of this movie didn't feel as intense as people were making them out to be, but they were still shocking when they occurred. the final shot and line of dialogue in Raw are harrowing and bleak, but crazy enough that I probably won't be able to forget them for a long time. in short, even though Raw was a different movie than what I thought it would be, I was still pleasantly surprised by the end result.
