A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master ★★★

Dream Master attempts to take on from the same magic and whimsical concepts of Dream Warriors, but it ultimately fails to go through and properly develop a handful of its coolest concepts like its predecessor did. And despite it having a compelling new lead character in Alice, who proves to be a worthy protagonist to fill Nancy's and Kristen's shoes, the rest of the roster is rather one dimensional and underdeveloped, not managing to get you as invested in them as the characters from previous movies did. Still, it's a fun movie, mostly thanks to entertaining and creative dream sequences, Robert Englund's ever so diabolically fun portrayal of Freddy, and a great, nearly cosmic-like climax that gives you a glimpse of what Dream Master could've been had it lived up to its potential.

Still, I wish we'd gotten Wes Craven's time-travel 4th movie instead.
