Very much Nolan trying his hand at late-period Michael Mann (though there's no mistaking Hoyte Van Hoytema's surreally high-resolution imagery for DV shots), po-faced and obsessed with insider lingo that will be completely foreign to most watching it, all the moreso here because it's made up. But Mann movies are lonely and Nolan movies are all about the redemptive power of teamwork and, yes, love, and while this plays as cool to the touch, the end reveals that Nolan is still just as much of a sap as he was in Interstellar. All the high-concept shenanigans here eventually go back to "it's nice to have people who will look out for you when things get tough", and you know what? It is.
