Hi I'm the Bearded Nerd and I'm just some average guy who loves to watch movies and talk about movies. This is my first official movie review. Today I'm obviously going to talk about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This movie is getting a lot buzz for all the wrong reasons. Mostly it's people on the internet trash talking about this saying it's the worst movie ever. Which I highly disagree with because yes this movie isn't perfect, it does have flaws but this is a pretty solid movie. It's a comic book movie so of course it's going to be cheesy and corny. Have stupid one liners and have really over the top moments. Guess what? Action movies from the 80's had those things and movies back then were fantastic. Enough about me ranting about people being too harsh on this movie. Let me tell you why I really liked this movie and can't wait to see these superheroes back on the big screen.
Lets talk about the elephant in the room. Is Ben Affleck a good Batman? Absolutely! This has to be one of the best actors to play the Dark Knight since Michael Keaton portrayed the role in Tim Burton's Batman. The thing I really loved the most about this Batman, is that he's angry and pissed off at the world. (Kind of spoilers) I know it's against Batman's code but I really dug the fact that he killed criminals. It's a different side of the Dark Knight we never get to see. I love it and I hope to see more of it when a solo Batman movie comes out in the near future.
Now it's time to discuss Henry Cavill returning as Superman. The guy isn't Christopher Reeve level Superman but he's pretty damn good at playing the role. I feel like I'm one of the few people who actually enjoy Man of Steel. If I wanted to watch a bright colored happy feeling Superman movie I would pull out my boxset and watch one of those. I understand Superman isn't suppose to be dark and gritty like The Dark Knight but I enjoy what Zack Snyder was trying to do with it. Enough of Man of Steel, you people are here trying to get my thoughts about Dawn of Justice.
Jesse Eisenberg...where oh where do I have to say about him? Overall I kind of understand that he was trying to do a different take on Lex Luthor but man he was something else in this movie. Before walking in people were saying how annoying he was and that he was pretty much like Jim Carrey's performance of The Riddler from Batman Forever. Yes he was strange and different. He wasn't that annoying and no where near being Jim Carrey from Batman Forever. All I'm saying is he really made me go for some cherry Jolly Ranchers.
Lastly I just want to touch upon Zack Snyder. The guy knows how to make a visually stunning movie (Watchmen) but sometimes he doesn't know how to tell a story. I feel like it wasn't his fault when it came to this movie's storytelling. I understand that this was a multi-million dollar franchise. WB Studios pretty much has their hands in the cookie jar. WB Studios should of left Snyder alone and let him have full control of this movie. Trying to cram so much stuff and make this into a Justice League movie. They should of stripped all that stuff out and just focused on making this into a straight up Batman fighting Superman flick.
Overall it's a visually stunning movie. I had a lot of fun watching this. It definitely can be all over the place when it comes to transitions between scenes. The movie was choppy at times. I'm pretty excited about the three hour director's cut that's rated R. Just ignore all the negative trashing this movie is getting. Go see it for yourself because how many times are you going to be able to see Batman and Superman beating the crap out of each other on the big screen?
