the conjuring universe is one of my favorite modern horror movie franchises, so i was bound to love this. i liked every single one of these movies so far, but the one i wasn't very fond of was the curse of la llorona. knowing that this was directed by michael chaves instead of wan, i lowered my expectations a little bit. but, this was surprisingly really good! you can clearly see how michael chaves has improved here as a director, delivering some pretty good scares and amazing set pieces. the villain was genuinely creepy and was easily the highlight of this movie. the warrens are as likable as ever and i would literally die for them. it's definitely the weakest conjuring movie, but it's still pretty fun nonetheless and i didn't find myself bored once. overall, i thought this was a genuinely great movie and don't let the fact that wan isn't directing fool you because this is definitely one of the better entries in the franchise.
