This is how you do it. More like this. Phenomenal. Derrickson’s masterpiece.

Funny, but also annoyingly bad. Bland & long. There are a couple of great scenes with Lorraine Bracco. Not Blake Edwards finest hour.

About as fun as a movie can be. It’s hard not to smile through the whole thing. Lots of cheers and claps during my screening. What going to the movies could be if more people knew what fun was.

  • The Room

    The Room 2003

If a skinemax film was a Lynch film but not sexy or weird.

Wiseau’s heh heh heh heh laugh is nightmarish.

I found it creepy and dull. If I want to watch a rich dude pay a wannabe actress for awkward sex scenes it’s Champagne & Bullets all the way.

  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 1986

    ★★★★★ Rewatched by TheBookOfDread 11 May 2022

2 things I loved on this viewing:

    The Leatherface shimmy.

    ‘Nam land!!!

This film is a masterpiece. Every note is perfect. Somehow doesn’t repeat the first film despite living in its skin.

Extra points for Oingo Boingos “No one lives forever”.

Hooper’s cannon trilogy is really the best uninterrupted run of films in his career.

(I think Dan O’Bannon unlocked something in him.)

The bastard child of Hooper & Fulci. X is a great film that knows exactly what it’s lane is & excels just enough to make the tawdry content not just a gas but downright artful. West’s most modulated work establishes him as a master.

  • Black Magic Rites

    Black Magic Rites 1973

Super colorful & fun. Great editing & music.

  • 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea 1916

    ★★½ Watched by TheBookOfDread 07 May 2022

Fascinating & beautiful, but much too long. The stories don’t mash well & that leads to confusion. Many incredible images abound.

Great looking. A little dull. The voice over is meh. I remember being quite impressed the 1st time I saw it in a cinema. This time I found it kinda boring.

Wow. My favorite Andy Milligan so far! (I’m watching them in chronological order.)

This one is funny, violent, & energized. Milligan is finding his pace. I wonder if they get better from here.

Some legitimately interesting & compelling performances in this film. The music works so well. Milligan actually establishes a mood here.

  • Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
