Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm ★★★½

“I'll eat a bat with you”

Amidst the havoc of the early pandemic and impending election in America, Sacha Baron Cohen’s timely (and arguably superior) sequel to his classic Borat film is an extremely ambitious and shockingly hilarious satire that pushes the limits of what it can legally achieve further than most comedians would ever attempt. Aided by the immensely talented and commendable efforts of Maria Bakalova, Baron Cohen manages to once again infiltrate and mock the absurdity of the country’s troubled politics and the hypocrisies of certain groups; accomplishing some fantastically risky stunts that make its predecessor almost seem tame by comparison. At one or two points it maybe pushes just a little too far into distasteful, but I really respect the determination and boldness of everyone who worked on it, producing what is likely the funniest film of the year and a perfect relic of 2020.

“[Sacha Baron Cohen]’s a phoney guy and I don’t find him funny. To me, he’s a creep” - Donald Trump
