Housebound ★★★½

Covering a commendable measure of genre-savvy ground before ending up with a droll, surprising and dynamic third act, this debut feature persistently wrong-foots the audience and switches from one subgenre to another without ever once losing its grasp on the comical ingredients. A key to the movie's effectiveness is O'Reilly's salty, belligerent performance which runs so counter to the genre's expected handling of women in distress.
