Paul Deines’s review published on Letterboxd :
The dread is thick like early Cronenberg, and Gyllenhaal does his best with the duel roll of a nervous history professor and his double. Villeneuve's direction is assured and creates some magnificent setpieces, but he augments the conceit (from a novel by Jose Saramago) with a lot of monster-arachnid imagery. The nightmare creations are fun, but they muddy the narrative. So to does the much-ballyhooed ending, which is shocking, yes, but seems like the hail-mary of a filmmaker not sure how to resolve his story.
