Oh hell yeah, this is the stuff. A nearly substance-free film, but what a weirdo dumb fun time. Sam Raimi is back and better than ever. Or better than I expected at least. Some real gnarly kills and some great snap zooms all over, and of course Danny Elfman doing his thing.
When I first watched Avengers at its midnight premiere, 10 years ago this weekend, my wildest teenage dreams were exactly this kind of movie. A continuity-filled, not that accessible, extremely odd movie filled with magic and multiverses and silly things played completely straight. This is the Marvel Cinematic Universe I have been waiting for all this time. Please, give the world less Black Widows, more Dr. Strange 2s.
