I think I'm getting better at it, but these two actresses just look way too much alike.

I'm always on the lookout for good prequels reviews. Thank you for this

When will you reevaluate the prequels, I've been eagerly awaiting this for so many years now

Thedude3445 commented on Paul DiNuzzo’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

I love this movie so much; in the Ring Cycle of thing (look up Star Wars Ring Theory if you don't know about it), this movie acts as the prologue, the first entry of a nine-part saga. It has so much ground to cover, so many characters and worlds to introduce, and I think it pulls it off admirably.

Thedude3445 commented on Podcasting's Brock’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Apparently even the VHS release has a couple changes; only the Japanese laserdisc is the actual theatrical cut, and it's super rare (plus has hard subs).

However, I was a big fan of the additional podrace edits... when I was like five and the DVD came out. Puppet Yoda has grown on me too, though I like the consistency of CG Yoda through all three movies.

This website is really poorly designed but here is the original theory: darthjarjar.com/original-theory-by-lumpawarroo/

Basically, it would have been super cool if he was a Sith Lord, so it must become so.

Thedude3445 commented on Will Walker’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

I was thinking about how everyone on the internet wants to Fix The Phantom Menace And Make It Not Suck or whatever, and I realized that there is one major way to redo the movie that I have never seen be brought up before-- reframing the entire movie from Padme's…

People who complain about midichlorians are the same people who watch hour-long "lore videos" on Youtube to skim Marvel comic storylines. They aren't meant to be scorned, but to be pitied.

Thedude3445 commented on Great Satan’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

I also never played Warcraft (just Hearthstone which isn't much help at all) but really enjoyed the movie. It's got some bad acting but really cool fast-paced storyline spanning many years and tons of characters.

Thedude3445 commented on Great Satan’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Ah crap, yeah Final Fantasy XV: Kingsglaive is absolutely maximalist cinema. Not the best thing in the world (the editing really got on my nerves the first time), but it's super dense in politics and worldbuilding and characters and visuals and really fast pacing.

Thedude3445 commented on Great Satan’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Lots of Adult Swim stuff is pretty maximalist and filled with incredibly visual detail, like Too Many Cooks for example.

Thedude3445 commented on Great Satan’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

I'd say Valerian is great maximalism for sure, though I don't know about Besson as a whole. Masaaki Yuasa's three feature films are the definition of maximalism, though, and I'd say that there is a ton of animation out there that qualifies too.

Thedude3445 commented on Great Satan’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Lovely lovely review and especially the point on TPM being maximalist cinema. It's not a genre people have fully recognized yet but these fun Star Wars movies are some of the best examples of it.

Thedude3445 commented on Andrew Furlong’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

The RLM reviews are the worst, don't do it lol. Midichlorians are like "ruining the mysticism" of it with "science" despite not actually doing that at all, as Episode III showed.

Thedude3445 commented on SilentDawn’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

I can't speak for him directly but I think he usually rounds up on ratings, at least from what I've seen. So a 4.1 or 4.2 would round to 4.5 .

Thedude3445 commented on Matthew Noble’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Great review. I went through the same opinion shift as I got older before realizing I really do still love the movie. For all the flak the first two prequels get they're still some of the better sci-fi films, even if they aren't as good as any of the other Star Wars movies.

Thedude3445 commented on Matthew Noble’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Darth Maul was cool, but I'd rather have seen Count Dooku be way more menacing in the movies. He doesn't even appear in AOTC until about two-thirds through and then he dies in the first reel of ROTS. Poor guy!

Thedude3445 commented on Matthew Noble’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

I love this slow Prequel Love revival coming about over the years. There's just so much ambition and spirit put into these that really doesn't exist in the vast majority of modern blockbusters and the fact there can be so many essays and reviews and disucssions means these movies are…

Thedude3445 commented on Nick’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Also I think the "prequels are AWFUL" narrative is finally starting to fade as time gets away from them, thankfully. I think the main sentiment is starting to become, "they aren't as good as the originals but they still have their strong points", which I'd disagree with myself but it's a lot better than people regurgitating Red Letter Media video points.

Thedude3445 commented on Nick’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Good review but can you edit this into separate paragraphs? It's hard to read in one big block.

Thedude3445 commented on Hayley Obfuscation’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

One day prequel lovers (or just appreciators) will be the ones people bandwagon around. Just watch and see.

Thedude3445 commented on Alex E (ON HIATUS FOR BIRTHDAY WEEK)’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

I actually really enjoy the incoherent politics in this movie (not so much AOTC though because it works against the film). Everyone forgets but Episode IV has completely confusing politics surrounding the movie, but they just never come to the forefront because the plot focuses on Luke and the gang…

Thedude3445 commented on Ninty64X’s review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Yeah this pretty well sums up the reasons TPM is good despite its very big flaws; it's just got heart that no modern blockbusters really ever accomplish thanks to studio mandates and franchise building. The closest example of recent would be probably Jupiter Ascending, but that movie is nowhere near as good in the end.
