Obama fan fiction that holds up slightly better than it should have.
There's this clear dividing line for "Die Hard but ____" movies that are classics, and ones that fall flat, and White House Down clearly falls in that latter camp. Usually, the failing factor is subpar villains or taking themselves too seriously, but in this case, Roland Emmerich's direction is the most major factor bringing this film down, just like pretty much every other movie I've seen from the guy. This movie could have been so, so good, but it's kind of stupid in not-good ways due to flat action in most setpieces, and an unengaging cast besides our main duo. And it's too bad, since Foxx and Tatum do great! They should have carried the whole thing!
