Essay: Why I Wish Theaters Would Run Recent Second-Run Movies

It really makes me sad that it's almost impossible to watch some movies in their intended format for some reason.

There's so many movies that were praised constantly for their eye-popping visuals, their mind-blowing sound design, their amazing use of 3D. There's only one problem-- these movies never play in theaters for more than 6 or 7 weeks, and even less in Imax or other premium formats. Once they're gone, they're gone, and you either have to spend thousands of dollars on a home theater system, or watch them in a suboptimal format, the latter of which is sadly how most of us have to cope. Movies like The Walk and Billy Lynn's Halftime Walk enter and leave theaters so…

  • The Walk
  • Gravity
  • Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
  • Avatar
  • Everest
  • Interstellar
  • The Martian
  • The Legend of Tarzan
  • Pacific Rim
  • TRON: Legacy
  • The Good Dinosaur
  • Dredd
  • Crimson Peak
  • Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
  • First Man
  • Gemini Man
