I think it's pretty funny that Vincente Minnelli had like two types of films he made. One was "real good time, just singing and laughing and dancing and love teeheehee" and the other is "abject tangle of misery, the human experience is failure and cruelty, beauty can be found but it is snuffed out slowly and with much agony"
