Watching this movie, I was amazed constantly knowing this was released about 50 years ago. The cinematography is revolutionary and I could definitely see why this is considered to be one of the most significant movies in cinematic history. The score and the effects, especially at the end was so new and original and it greatly broadened the possibilities of film making.
I would say though that I was only really interested in the second half of the movie. It was hard to get through 20 minutes of screaming monkeys and long moments of scenes rolling through space. Though necessary and beautiful, I did think it lasted too long at times.
By the way, the HAL 9000 is an amazing character and he was created so masterfully that I'm completely terrified of my Alexa now.
