    High Flying Bird

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I like modern Soderbergh a lot. I know not everyone does but Logan Lucky, Mosaic, and Unsane have all hit it out of the park for me. High Flying Bird however missed the mark.

The overall tone felt drab and lazy despite its snappy script. The performances were fine except for maybe Gregg who felt like he just read the material right before Soderbergh yelled action. Holland was fantastic and charismatic but the problem is that you never felt like…

I think this movie got four stars from me mainly because of the performances. There’s a reason all three of them are nominated. I wish both Stone and Weisz could win. They were quick, raw, and unflinching in their devious humor and it was a delight to watch.

The writing is of course what made all of that possible and deserves recognition. While Davis did get the well deserved nomination, my bet is on Schrader. That’s neither here nor there.…
