Don't Get Too Close to That Edge.
Joanna Scanlan gives a heartbreaking performance in After Love where she has to learn how to move on after her husband's sudden death. As she begins to mourn, she discovers her husband's second life across the channel which turns her world upside down.
Writer and Director Aleem Khan's feature debut impressively recounts the feeling of love and loss in a modern and multicultural society. He doesn't shy away from letting the audience sit in uncomfortable situations, the opening scene is a brilliant and brutal example of this.
Joanna Scanlan shines as Mary who begins to live a double life of her own as she falls too deep into investigating her late husband's secrets.
A subtle and sombre piece that is elevated by strong performances and honest filmmaking behind the camera.
