Jack Aling’s review published on Letterboxd:
That's The Dream.
A quirky story of those living outside of the system, Kajillionaire may be a little overbearing at times but has heart at the center of its bittersweet tale.
Evan Rachel Wood does her best Napoleon Dynamite impression as Old Dolio who thanks to her scam artist parents has been rid of any real-world experience. When Gina Rodriguez's Melanie becomes involved in their schemes, Old Dolio's eyes are opened to a new way of living.
At first, I found it really hard to connect with any of the characters but especially in the final act, you cannot help but sympathise with Rachel Wood and the life she has been robbed of.
Miranda July writes and directs a piece that focuses on the importance of human connection and the effect that can have on a person. Making some shocking turns along the way, Kajillionaire is a touching evaluation of what it means to be truly independent.
