Jack Aling’s review published on Letterboxd:
Legacies Outlive Love.
Riz Ahmed astounds as he co-writes and stars in the intense Mogul Mowgli.
An intimate piece that faces reality rather than pushing it aside, through claustrophobic and surreal filmmaking and an achingly personal story, Ahmed battles physical illness as well as coming to terms with his identity, family, religion, and career giving a haunting performance that may very well be his best.
The fast-paced editing jumps without a moments notice between slow and calming character scenes, to chaotic and erratic dream sequences which parallels Ahmed's journey through the film.
"Why are you running away?" is a question asked throughout - Mogul Mowgli is full of expression and is an inspiring but realistic look at what happens when you no longer recognise yourself.
