I Know What You Did Last Summer

    ★★½

Having not seen it in 25 years since it was initially released as the next big post-modern Slasher thanks to the popularity of SCREAM and writer Kevin Williamson, it was revealing how much Wes Craven was truly SCREAM’s chief puppet master.
This weirdly paced, somewhat dull script is clearly not doing the actors and filmmakers any favors and aside from Phillippe’s kinda-unhinged performance and the copious amounts of 90’s cleavage, it didn’t do much for me this time around aside from the nostalgia side of things.
That said, seeing it at the New Bev at midnight with a packed midnight crowd was fun.

    Well it wasn’t boring!
2 1/2 hours goes by in a flash but not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but it’s most definitely a Baz thing. My favorite film of his (not counting his Netflix show) in a while, maybe MOULIN ROUGE! But it felt like more of a cinematic medley than a true biopic.
Austin Butler, like Elvis on that stage in the first of a few truly electric performance set pieces, becomes a movie star before our eyes. He was magnetic.
Tom Hanks was fine but kept reminding me of Dan Aykroyd in NOTHING BUT TROUBLE.

One of the quietest and most subtly beautiful “revenge” movies I think I’ve ever seen.
Still kinda shaking from watching it.
    Go in knowing nothing.
Cage needs his Oscar nom campaign NOW.
