The set pieces in Philly, South Korea, Jerusalem and England are solid, scary and entertaining. The film looks great and the zombies are pretty darn scary. Somehow it just doesn't knit together that well - and for all the tension, it's not super-scary. Pitt is good, though, better than usual and lends the film a certain gravity.

Best zombie film since 28 Weeks Later? Possibly. Very well thought out and shot. The melodrama is a bit much at times, but it's in the overall "Asian" genre style itself, so you take it as it comes.

It's a bit by the numbers Oscar bait, but the performances are terrific and after awhile, it really gathers power for a solid finish. I really liked it.

It doesn't hit home runs with its musical and dance numbers, and I don't know that Stone and Gosling really fit together, but something spooky and wonderful happens in this film on the way: charm, heart, honesty, and truth. Bravo to Damien Chazelle and his restless, artistic spirit.
