For being, convoluted, messy, and way too heavy handed I still enjoyed it.
This thing bites off way more than it can chew. A problem I feel came from the studio. They feel they need to "catch up" to marvel. So they shove all this into one movie and it ends up being worse off. Marvel makes money, not good movies. Man of steel was a good movie.
The whole fucking first half of the movie is Batman and Superman struggling with inner demons and confronting each other. All to be resolved by "oh our moms have the same name, I guess you're just like a human." Maybe I missed something there but that's how it played to me. Should've been handled way differently. Also on the topic of batman and superman, the title was terrible and shouldn't have hyped them facing off.
Lastly the religious undertones were so heavy handed. And I never mind stuff like that. But wow, every line out of Jessie Eisenberg's mouth was some bullshit metaphor to religion. Eisenberg was also the worst acted part in the film. Not sure why they made Luthor seem insane when I always thought he was supposed to be a well articulated "genius."
That being said, I still love snyders vision of superman and batman for that matter. This had potential to be one of the best superhero films, maybe ever? Doomsday being the final villain should've been way better, but instead was mediocre. Hopefully the pacing and writing is better for the sequels, if DC fucks this up all we'll be left with is shitty marvel films (and a fox film every 3 years).
