SCOPE FILM CLUB #1 Recommend By Me
Beginning with an ape and ending with a man. The full cycle of our species.
A story, I believe about the cycle of life. A ouroboros. The design of the world is build on circles. Everything is moving, repeating on over it’s self. Everything is in motion but not forward or back, left of right. Something moving on a circle is giving the illusion of change. Going around and around without getting anywhere. Even HAL is in that cycle. He started out average, went crazy then returned to his normal. Nothing happened. Nothing happened.
Man becomes older man becomes ever older man, dies and the next generation is born. The cycle repeats.
I can’t objectively discus 2001, I simply cannot. I was hypnotized. Hypnotism is in the subconscious. It’s always on the tip of your tongue but you can never catch it. Forever present but what is it? What is 2001? What makes it so magical? Those answers might have died with Kubrick or had never existed to begin with. I don’t believe in god but I believe in god given talent. One person should not be this talented but there he is. You can argue that 2001 is “boring, pretentious and too long” but you’re wrong. I never said this before but if you can’t appreciate 2001 in anyway, I don’t think you should be in the art of film.
2001: A Space Odyssey is the only 10 I’ve objectively given.
This is so far above everything else, I don’t know what could compete.
Edit: I hate this review so much. I’ll keep it as a reminder, not to slip into this level of pretension ever again.
