My Heart Is That Eternal Rose

The rose. The symbol of love. The fragrance of intimacy. The physical embodiment of romance. A rose's time is fleeting, because the beauty of a rose is not everlasting. Over time it wilts and deteriorates just like anything else uprooted from the ground in which it was planted, but the memory of it's fervent elegance lives on. In a similar way, the feelings we share for each other in our most intimate moments are eternal. Even when passion wanes in…

    John Wick: Chapter 4

    What a beautiful sunrise.

Every now and then a movie comes along that sets the standard for it's genre. A film that changes the way we perceive everything that follows. It's very rare that a sequel will do such a thing, as there is usually an established formula that it must adhere to. While John Wick: Chapter 4 still sticks close to the well worn gun-fu formula it is known for, I have a hard time thinking of another action…

Champions doesn't exactly break the mold when it comes to these kinds of films. It's a feel-good sports comedy about a down on his luck coach, who is court ordered to apply his skills in helping an intellectually challenged basketball team. It follows most of the same sports dramedy cliches that you would expect, and overall, it's easy to predict where all of this is headed.

However, the cast does a great job, and you can tell everyone had a…

The story is about as deep as an inflatable pool, and it isn't particularly scary (unless the sight of blood is the baseline for horror in your eyes), but this was actually pretty fun. A character study/revenge film, with some decent acting and a premise that would make papa Cronenburg as giddy as a schoolgirl. Kathrine Isabelle does a solid job in the leading role, portraying her descent into madness flawlessly. She's as cold as the steel she uses to…

Do you enjoy extended shots of walls, ceilings, or pitch black rooms? What about watching lights turn on and off? Are you a fan of movies with absolutely no story or character development? Are you easily impressed by After Effects filters that are noticably on a loop, making the movie look grainy beyond belief? Then have I got the movie for you!! You're going to shit your pants when they dial numbers on the phone and whisper in the darkness.…

Jordan Peele is unquestionably a talented director. The man knows how to frame a scene, and he seems to take a lot of pride in presenting his vision. I also appreciate that he isn't making the exact same movie over and over, which is refreshing in this age of regurgitated ideas. That being said, I am extremely confused as to how anyone can say this was "good" with a strait face.

For starters the pacing is incredibly slow for a…
