I liked the movie... that’s the short answer.
The Kylo Ren/Ben Solo arc is the greatest story that has come from the Star Wars franchise and that alone warrants the 4 stars.
But... I need to say things.
This film is still very much flawed... more so than any other installment in this newest trilogy.
You could feel the passive aggressive/petty vibe resonating from JJ’s choices from the first…
Imagine filmmaking has evolved just like it has since the 50’s.... except the acting.
I’m positive this exists within the same universe of Terry Gilliam’s “The Crimson Permanent Reassurance”. Is there a Gilliamverse? If so...this somehow counts.
Aesthetically it’s like a third installment in Tim Burton’s Batman franchise... minus Batman.
Even though this is the lesser known of “1994 films starring Tim Robbins”... or Paul Newman for that matter... this film should not be slept on.
