Scorsese's usage of pop music has always been part of his style, just like Tarantino's trunk shots, or (Wes) Anderson's sharp stylistic tone. But there's never been something as truly striking as Derek and the Domino's Layla in GoodFellas.

    Layla.

The slow tracking shot, revealing the gore, and slowly moving upward over a bright pink car, while the angelical pianos play from one the best classic rock tracks of all time.

    Intoxicating.

Beautifully directed for a documentary. This film is structurally fascinating and created like a strange docudrama. It's documentation of a sociopath is brilliant. Also a plus, the strange grayish cinematography works and looks beautiful.

My mother is very upset I kept clucking my tongue on the ride home from seeing this with her, and now she won't speak to me.
