Marina Antunes’s review published on Letterboxd :
I was completely baffled by Jeff VanderMeer's novel and though I didn't know what exactly was going on, I was completely mesmerized by VanderMeer's language and found myself reading even though half of the time, I wasn't completely sure what was happening to the characters.
Alex Garland strips away the confusion and creates a streamlined story of a group of women sent in to uncover the mystery of the shimmer and the alien invasion which is apparently unfolding inside. This is, by far, the most elaborate alien invasion I've ever encountered but it's also one of the most interesting.
Garland continues to make interesting movies that pose big questions in interesting new ways. Sign me up for the next one.
