It seems the current way to turn the teen comedy on its ear is to write the same movie but with teen girls replacing teen boys without taking any further consideration for the fact that they’re female and therefore inherently different. Thankfully, Olivia Milch’s movie doesn’t fall into that category. Sure, it features a group of girls who smoke, drink, get high and talk about sex but then, they’re teenagers. It’s what teenagers do regardless of sex. But thrown in the mix here are frank discussion about sex, expectations, college, and female friendship and to boot – it’s occasionally really funny.
Though the movie centers mostly on Lucy Hale’s character, I was far more interested in Alexandra Shipp and Awkwafina.
