Gosh this movie hits so close to home for me I'm not really sure where to even start. As an immigrant who in elementary and high-school felt so much like an outsider, I can relate to Hala's struggles at school but for the most poignant moments are those at home.
The way Minhal Baig captures family life, how Hala speaks with her parents, the connection she has with her father, that's all really relatable though I must admit that Hala's realization that she'd been reading the family dynamics all wrong is what really made me a bit uncomfortable by close it comes to my own experience.
A wonderful, poignant film.
