There was a refreshing amount of personality in this. It feels so much more stylish and horror-oriented than the average Marvel film. Halfway through the film a really great montage scene that uses such creative editing. And, the various universes give them a chance to get imaginative, I really enjoyed that. We get that classic Raimi style of cinematography, and I love seeing tense horror scenes in a comic book movie again. It gets genuinely dark at times.

    However, it’s…

Two A24 bangers in one week? We ATE…

Don’t know where to start. I don’t mean to sound dramatic or anything, but this was the most cathartic movie experience for me in a long time. It’s uplifting in a deeply cosmic way and it made meaning in my life for those two short hours in the dark theater. The whole multiverse plot device allows for so many absurd tangents and ridiculous subplots that I loved. It’s chaos, but if it…

There’s a surprising amount of imagination and heart in here for a biopic. At the first the way the musical numbers were introduced felt a little goofy, but as time went on the scenes got more and more creative and emotional, it was a lot of fun and really impressive. The casting here was really perfect too, Taron’s voice just fits this story so perfectly. Poor guy must be sick of performing “I’m Still Standing” by now, though.

Darkly comedic and lots of fun. The time-jumps are handled well and allow for lots of twists and turns in the story. Producer on this film came to our class this morning and gave us some pretty good classic recommendations. Can’t believe is that the ratings board wanted them to cut the ear scene (no pun intended), it’s definitely one of the more impactful ones, especially with the perfect choice in music.

So good at building suspense, it really feels reminiscent of a horror at points the way it stokes paranoia within its characters. And, the visuals are so effortlessly gorgeous and subtle. Everything Fincher does just looks so sleek. It’s scary the kind of the reach the shady and mysterious people behind this conspiracy have. Really starts to make you question reality after a while in the same way something like The Truman Show does. Ending is a bit baffling but I’m in love with the style and the mystery.

I was really looking forward to this after Matt Reeves’ impressive direction in the Planet of the Apes series, and man he did not disappoint. The action is filmed so clearly and cinematically, it looks amazing. Loved the almost slow-burn detective element to it, and they really tapped into the fear aspect of Batman’s character extremely well. So many dark things are going on here and there’s plenty of scenes that would honestly feel right at home in the Saw
