Never imagined a Scream movie could work so well without Sidney Prescott. But it subverts expectations and is so interesting in the context of the larger franchise. And some of these scenes are so tense and genuinely stand on their own really well. The NYC setting is used to amazing effect, and the returning characters from 5CREAM make such a lovable friend group to follow. I’m loving the continued tradition of unhinged Ghostface performances, too.

    This can definitely feel like…

Weird doesn’t begin to cover it. Infinity Pool is hypnotizing, brutal, sexy fun that presents the trademark Cronenberg sci-fi concepts in an electrifying way. The crazy kaleidoscope montages were so colorful and entrancing, not to mention Mia Goth’s unsurprisingly amazing performance. It’s an experience I think I enjoyed a bit more than Possessor, packed with unforgettable visuals and direction that leaves me anxious to see Brandon’s next project (which he teased would be space-themed at the Q&A, sounds dope!).

As far as Disney remakes go, it had some underwater scenes that weren’t terribly muted, and Bailey offers a great performance. The film relies on her just as much as it does on reminding me of my childhood with familiar beats and visuals. Glad they apparently had enough confidence in her as a singer not to completely digitize her voice like we’ve seen in these movies before. Can’t say the same for Eric, but at least belting theater boys get…

So many close-ups of Willem getting very intimate with water. It’s very amusing. I love a good bottle location as much as the next guy, but a film like that needs the story structure to actually go somewhere compelling for it to feel worth while in the end. The hallucinatory shake-ups and his obsessive security camera voyeurism were interesting, but by the end I felt it could have made its point as a short.

Don’t know where to start. I don’t mean to sound dramatic or anything, but this was the most cathartic movie experience for me in a long time. It’s uplifting in a deeply cosmic way and it made meaning in my life for those two short hours in the dark theater. The whole multiverse plot device allows for so many absurd tangents and ridiculous subplots that I loved. It’s chaos, but if it…

Damn, that was so much fun, and so much more intense this time around! It’s clear this is shaping up to be an excellent series, I’m dying for part two. Glad we got to see Gwen in action as Spidey on her own Earth- it was really her film, beginning and ending with important moments in her arc. And, Peter B raising a kid is the cutest thing. It probably goes without saying, but the cinematography is utterly gorgeous, and I…
