Lovely 35mm print at the Seattle Art Museum.

My goodness, I cannot stop smiling.

This film was a childhood fav (and v. important to little Meg, 'cause Myrna Loy plays a legit, established judge who is intelligent, warm, funny--and never once forced to prove her competence), and I remembered it as being very funny.

But, dang, seeing it now after a few years--it was even funnier than I remembered. Like it is fresh and witty and loose, and the entire audience was #feelingit.

The end applause was one of those spontaneous expressions of communal joy applauses. 😍😍😍

Watched again with friends. Still smiled stupidly the entire time. I have no excuses or explanations.

I have now seen the very Costner of '90s Costner--and I can definitively say:

YOU WILL NEVER BREAK ME, COSTNER! NEVER! *stands and shakes fist*

Friends, I had no intentions of ever seeing this film ever in my entire life. You and I have both read so much about its terrible White Saviourness. We know better.

But, friends, I turned on the television this evening. And this was beginning. Once again, FATE had intervened with its own favorite intervention: 1990s…

Watching this on the big screen surrounded by people I love was a life-affirming experience tbh.

Also, life-affirming: Keanu chewing gum, grabbing an electrical drill out of his cargo pants pocket, and wearing a tactical vest.

Sandra Bullock is an American hero and also my hero.

I also realized during this screening that the moment when Alan Ruck translates Keanu's "Fuck me!" to "Oh, darn." is the most me moment that has ever been captured on film.

This film is a cinematic gift! God bless us, everyone.
