Danny B’s review published on Letterboxd:
Enjoyed this more than I remember. Nowhere near as strong as the first, but still features a great score, Johnny Depp as fun as he gets, beautiful set design, inventive and creative action scenes and it's still pretty funny for the most part.
Where it fails is the obvious stuff. The story is crammed with a lot, far too much and is a little convoluted and messy when it comes to dealing with all its characters and giving them all meaningful screentime. All that is probably why this film is far too long. This easily could have been 2 hours, but is stretched to an overlong 150 minutes. Even with a break in the middle going to see Sing and returning to finish this off, it still felt too long.
That said. The action scene with the wheel = The best part of the franchise.
Onto The World's End at some point soon... Then might crack out underrated The Lone Ranger.
