Dan’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Heat" to me was strangely too long and not long enough. I could see it being the basis for a fantastic cable TV series remake. There's plot threads that could be much more fleshed out, like Dennis Haysbert's whole thing and Val Kilmer's family situation. It all still works, but some of these plot threads get short-changed in favor of Pacino and De Niro. To be fair, both are terrific. A great sprawling story like this could use room to breathe.
I don't really have much else to say, I'm 19 years late to this party, the film is rightly regarded as a modern classic, and the entire cast is terrific. Michael Mann knows how to write and shoot great action set-pieces and I'm thinking I need to dig deeper into his filmography.
