"For me the sun rises and sets with her, man."

I originally watched this when I was far too young to appreciate it and I'm not even sure I finished it, so it's nice to revisit this with fresh eyes.

What can be said has already been said; This is, and I don't say it lightly, a fucking masterpiece.

A crime thriller of epic proportions. Grand yet nuanced, it's the pinnacle of the genre, with all elements so perfectly balanced,…

    "See through my hand.
    Blood running through my hand.
That's time belting away from me."

Poignant, melancholic yet uplifting little slice of life. I wasn't expecting much from this, if anything really but I was profoundly moved by the whole thing and I've come away with a new favourite Emma Thompson performance. It's magic. A gorgeous, underseen gem of a movie.

It's your perfect tea and biscuit film. Sumptuously shot, movingly performed and just all-round lovely.

The film noir and detective/crime thriller aspects of this alone make it my favourite live-action Batman movie. Matt Reeves' Gotham City makes Christopher Nolan's look positively charming!

Deliberately and perfectly paced, I didn't feel the length of this at all; it flew by and I loved every minute.

This is the film Joker wanted to be. It could never!

I very nearly didn't bother seeing this. Not because I didn't want to but because I spent a good 30 minutes fighting Exeter traffic and every time I found a good parking spot it turned out that because Exeter is stuck in the middle ages, none of the pay and display machines accepted card. The advertised start time came and went, the trailers were about to end and after a really shitty week in the world of Nick, the lowest…
