This looks and feels like a live action anime. Maybe it is. Honestly, I have no idea. But the costumes are goofy as hell, the story is silly, and the overall vibe is pretty cheap.
Hell looks like a Disney ride, like Jungle Cruise meets Haunted Mansion.
It's all just kinda boring.

The Future Is Wild 2002
I genuinely can't believe that Michio Kaku wasn't in this. This seems like his bread & butter.
I love the concept of this. I really enjoy speculative evolution. I've seen some great art that postulates the future of human and animal evolution. Fascinating stuff.
Sadly, this is just not very good. Terrible CGI that wasn't very good in 2002 and is really awful in 2024.
The talking heads don't help. Even without "anything for a sandwich and a chance to get…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens 2015
(First Viewing) I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm a HUGE Science Fiction nerd. And I've loved Star Wars (among other universes) since I can remember. On the other hand, Star Wars leans much more into the realms of Fantasy than I tend to enjoy, nostalgic trips have become largely empty and dissatisfying for me lately, and there hasn't been a really good Star Wars movie since 1980. I didn't feel as burned by "The Phantom Menace" as many, but…

Mulan: Rise of a Warrior 2009
From the generic score, to the dull battles, to the woefully misused Zhao Wei, "Mulan: Rise of a Warrior" is a master-class in how not to make an epic. The plodding pace and lack of interesting characters makes the whole thing kind of excruciating to sit through. There's been a wave of these lifeless historic action films coming out of China in the last decade or so. For every House of Flying Daggers, there seems to be a dozen or more of these. It's too bad, because the story is interesting (not as presented here...) and Zhao Wei is typically pretty good.
