Talk about a movie that is saved by it’s strong by its strong performances and spectacular atmosphere. Because if you even take two seconds to think about The Black Phone and how its plot works it all comes crumbling down. But the pros definitely outweigh the cons and I imagine many will leave the theater with positive thoughts about this thriller. Horror? Debatable. Thank God, Ethan Hawke is here to save the day once again ladies and gentlemen.

“It has been almost a decade since Baz Luhrmann last directed a feature film. A decade since we’ve last felt his relentless energy and kinetic editing techniques that transform mundane scripts into those of great spectacle. Just when you think you might’ve forgotten all that he can bring to the table he returns to take on the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley. While there may be some moments where the film stumbles, and the two hour and 40…

Autumn Sonata embodies the definition of what most would consider to be a powerful movie. Remind me of Roger Ebert‘s famous quote about how movies are a machine that generate empathy. This machine is firing on all cylinders and turning out more empathy and passion than most movies ever dream of achieving. The only thing that holds me back from giving this the perfect score is the editing. Some of the transactions are a little jarring going from one conversation…

It’s very possible that I was just not in the mood for this movie. It’s also very possible that it was exactly in the mood for this kind of movie and this is just not that good at being this kind of movie.

Foul Play aims high by attempting to be a romance, comedy, crime thriller. It’s spinning a lot of plates, and juggling a lot of balls, and unfortunately many of them come crashing to the floor. The biggest…

As I walked out of the theater after taking in Pixar’s newest feature, Lightyear, I’m left with two very distinct thoughts. One, Pixar needs to lay Toy Story, and any subsequent spin-offs, to rest. They have made too many of these movies now and have forgotten the core characteristics of one of the franchise’s primary characters. If you can’t even keep your own characters consistent, it’s time to put a pause on the franchise. Two, there is no fucking chance…

There’s just no way it could live up to the hype, right? As of my first viewing of this flick, and posting of this review, this is the number one narrative feature film on Lettterboxd of all time. All. Time. There’s just no way this could be that good, yeah? It’s clearly just inflated limited screening reviews generating positive word of mouth and a desire to not feel left out, nothing more. But… but what if it was good? No,…
